Wheel Bearing Assembly Overview
1 Wheel Bearing Housing (3-Point Mount) - FS III Brake
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing ] Wheel Bearing Housing.
• With integrated brake carrier.
• If a wheel bearing housing is replaced, vehicle must then be aligned. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
2 Wheel Hub with Wheel Bearing (3-Point Mount) - FS III Brake
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Unit, 3-Point Mount ] Wheel Bearing Unit, 3-Point Mount.
• Sensor ring for ABS is installed in wheel hub.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
3 Suspension Strut
4 Bolt
• Bolt point must face in direction of travel.
5 Left Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47) / Right Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G45)
• Can be checked in Guided Fault Finding using the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B).
• Before inserting wheel speed sensor, clean inner surface of bore hole and coat with securing grease (G 000 650).
6 Bolt
• 8 Nm
7 Tie Rod End
8 Cover Plate
9 Bolt
• 10 Nm
10 Nut
• 20 Nm + 90° turn
• Self-locking
• Always replace if removed.
11 Wheel Bearing Housing (4-Point Mount) - FS III Brake
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing ] Wheel Bearing Housing.
• With integrated brake carrier.

13 Bolt
• Various versions
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• There are 2 types of twelve-point bolts, with and without ribs.
• When installing a twelve-point bolt, always check what type of twelve-point bolt is to be used.
• Use the correct tightening specification for the specific bolt.
• The tightening specification for a twelve-point bolt with ribs is 70 Nm + 90°. For loosening and tightening specifications, refer to => [ Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt With Ribs, Loosening and Tightening.
• The tightening specification for a twelve-point bolt without ribs is 200 Nm + 180°. For loosening and tightening specifications, refer to => [ Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt With Ribs, Loosening and Tightening.
• Always replace if removed.
14 Bolt
15 Wheel Hub with Wheel Bearing (4-Point Mount)
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Unit, 4-Point Mount ] Wheel Bearing Unit, 4-Point Mount
• Sensor ring for ABS is installed in wheel hub.
• Various versions.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
16 Wheel Bearing Housing (4-Point Mount) - FN3 Brake
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing ] Wheel Bearing Housing.
• With fastened brake carrier.
• If a wheel bearing housing is replaced, vehicle must then be aligned. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
17 Bolt
• 70 Nm + 90° turn
• Always replace if removed.
18 Drive Axle
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Drive Axle with CV Joint ] Drive Axle With CV Joint, => [ Left Drive Axle with Mounted CV Joint ] Left Drive Axle With Mounted CV Joint, => [ Right Drive Axle with Mounted CV Joint ] Right Drive Axle With Mounted CV Joint, => [ Drive Axle with Tripod Joint AAR3300i ] Drive Axle with Tripod Joint AAR3300i.
19 Nut
• 70 Nm + 90° turn
• Self-locking
• Always replace if removed.
Differences Between a Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs and a Twelve-Point Bolt without Ribs
The contact surfaces - arrow A - and - arrow B - are different on the two-point bolts.
