HID Bulb (L13)/(L14)

HID Bulb (L13)/(L14)

Observe usage and safety information for gas discharge lamps. Refer to=> [ HID Headlamps, Usage and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

The left HID headlamp bulb (L13) and right HID headlamp bulb (L14) can be checked via the output diagnostic test mode of the Vehicle electrical system control module (J519).

The figures depict the replacement of the right HID headlamp bulb.

The procedure for replacing the left HID headlamp bulb is the same.

For reasons of clarity, the following figures show the headlamp in the uninstalled state. It is not necessary to remove the headlamp when replacing the headlamp bulb.

Removal

- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

- Remove the cap - 1 - from the headlamp housing.

- Release the harness connector - 1 - - arrow - and disconnect.

There are pressures from 7 bar (cold) to 100 bar (hot) in the glass portion of the HID bulb. The hot glass of the bulb can reach temperatures of up to 700 degrees Celsius (1292° F).

The glass can explode and there is a danger of burning.

When removing and installing HID bulbs, always wear safety glasses and gloves.

- Turn the HID lamp - 1 - in the - direction of the arrow - to the stop and carefully pull it backward out of the headlamp.

HID lamp: Type D3S, 35W

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Do not touch the glass of the HID lamp during installation. Fingers leave traces of grease on the glass cone which can evaporate when the HID lamp is switched on causing the glass cone to cloud.

The glass of the HID lamp must not be exposed to any mechanical strain. Glass cone is extremely sensitive and is also under high pressure.

Avoid looking directly into the light beam, since the UV rays given off by the HID lamp are approximately 2.5 times stronger than those of a halogen bulb.

During installation of the cap, ensure proper seating of the seal. It is destroyed by entry of water into headlamp.

If a headlamp with automatic vertical headlamp range control is removed, always perform headlamp basic setting after installation.

- Carefully insert the new HID lamp - 1 - in the removal position with the harness connector downward into the headlamp.

- To lock the HID lamp - 1 -, turn it in the - direction of the arrow - to the stop.

- Connect the harness connector to the HID lamp and lock it in place.

During installation, ensure proper seating of the cap. It is destroyed by entry of water into headlamp.

- Install the cap.

- Check headlamp for functions.

- Check the headlamp adjustment and correct it if necessary.
