Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
Transmission Oil Cooler
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
- Remove the battery and the battery tray.
- Place a lint free cloth on the transmission oil cooler and transmission to absorb the leaking coolant.
- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094) and remove the hoses from the cooler.
- Remove the bolts - A - and the transmission oil cooler - B -.
Coolant must not drip into the transmission!
Installing
- Replace the transmission oil cooler O-rings - C -.
- Install the transmission oil cooler - B -, while doing this, pay attention to the O-rings - C -.
- Install and tighten the new bolts - A - to 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
- Connect the coolant hoses to the transmission oil cooler and remove the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094).
- Install the battery tray and the battery.
- Check coolant level and fill if necessary. Refer to one of the following:
Gas engines
- After repairing, check the transmission oil level and fill if required. Refer to => [ Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Oil Level, Checking and Filling.
Do not start the engine during coolant level testing if the transmission oil has not been filled yet.
