Subframe, without the Steering Gear
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
• The subframe is removed together with the control arms.
- Remove the lower noise insulation.
- Remove the wheels.
- Remove the ball joint nuts - arrows - on the left and right sides of the vehicle.
- Separate the control arm from the ball joint.
- Remove the exhaust system suspended mount bolts - arrows - from the subframe.
- Remove the heat shield bolts - arrows -and shield, if equipped
- Remove the coupling rods from the stabilizer bar.
- Remove the pendulum support bolts - 13 -.
- Secure the subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe, Securing ] Subframe, Securing.
- Remove the steering gear bolts- 5 and 5 - from the subframe.
- Remove the stabilizer bar clamp bolts - 7 and 8 - from the subframe.
- Remove the subframe bolts - 9 and 10 -.
- Lower the subframe using the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Remove the wire guide - arrow - from the subframe.
- Secure the steering gear to the body.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Install the wheels. Refer to => [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.
- Install the noise insulation.
