CD Changer: Service and Repair

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Radio Removal Tool (3316)
• The Radio Removal Tool (3316) is made up of 2 identical parts.
• The CD changer is not faulty if the CD changer plays commercially available CD's, but not self-burned CD's. Replacing the CD changer for this reason is not permitted.
• Mix CD's (CD's that contain computer data and also music) cannot be played.
• Music CD's with 8 cm diameter (mini-discs) cannot be played back.
• When retrofitting CD changer, radio functions must always be coded again.
Removing
• The CD changer is built into the glove compartment.
Perform the following steps before starting:
- Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the key.
- Remove any remaining CD's in the CD changer if necessary. Refer to the Owner's Manual.
- Remove the glove compartment from the passenger side.
- Remove the glove compartment with the installed CD changer out from the instrument panel.
- Disconnect the connector - A - from the glove compartment and remove the cable tie - arrow -.
- Pull on the retaining strap - A - and lower the CD changer.
- Slide the (3316) into the designated right and left slits on the CD changer - arrows - until they audibly engage.
- Remove the CD changer with the radio removal tool from out of the glove compartment - arrows -.
- Press on the retaining clip - arrow - and remove the release tool from out of the device.
Installing
- Unclip the connector housing for the wire connection from the CD changer.
- Slide the CD changer into the installation frame for the glove compartment and when doing this, guide the wire connection upward through the opening in the glove compartment.
- Now slide the CD changer in further until it audibly engages.
- Secure the upper connection - A - to the glove compartment with a cable tie - arrow - so that they cannot rattle. Cut off the extra cable tie length.
- Reconnect the connector.
- Reinstall the glove compartment.
