Windshield, Removing

Perform the following:

- Remove plenum chamber cover. Refer to => [ Plenum Chamber Cover ] Plenum Chamber Cover.

- Remove the upper left and right A-pillar trim..

- Remove the left and right sun visors.

- Remove the interior rearview mirror.

- Lower the headliner in the windshield area..

- Slide a suitable cover for Audi A4 dash panel between the windshield and instrument panel.

Always wear protective goggles and leather gloves when removing the windshield.

- Carefully poke the awl - 2 - (i.e. (V.A.G 1474/2) ) through the bead of adhesive from the inside to the outside as illustrated.






- Protect the body flange with tape - 1 - on the around the awl - 2 -.

- Thread the cutting wire - 3 - in the awl - 2 - and pull it through the adhesive into the vehicle interior.

- Lay the cutting wire, as shown,surrounding under the windshield in the window glass flange.






- Make sure that cutting thread is inserted under windshield at corners.

The ends of the wire must not be twisted when cutting through the adhesive - arrow -.

- Tighten the thread ends on the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) and the pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1).






- Set spooling tool (V.A.G 1654 A) into "Position I".

- Move spooling tool (V.A.G 1654 A) according to position required and cut windshield free.

- While cutting free, press cutting cord against window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance from window flange and instrument cluster.

- Remove window from window opening.
