Undamaged Rear Window, Removing
- Remove the rear lid trim panel..
• If windshield is to be used again, make sure that electrical connections for windshield heating and the window antenna are not damaged.
- Disconnect rear window defroster and window antenna connectors and secure to center of window with adhesive tape.
Always wear protective goggles and leather gloves when removing the rear window.
- Carefully poke the awl - 1 - (i.e. (V.A.G 1474/2) ) through the bead of adhesive from the inside to the outside as illustrated.
- Thread the cutting wire - 2 - in the awl - 1 - and pull it through the adhesive into the vehicle interior.
- Lay the cutting wire - 1 -, as shown,surrounding under the rear window in the window glass flange.
- Make sure that cutting thread is inserted under rear window at corners.
The ends of the wire must not be twisted when cutting through the adhesive - arrow -.
- Tighten the thread ends on the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) and the pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1).
- Position the reel device (V.A.G 1654 A) as illustrated.
- Move spooling tool (V.A.G 1654 A) according to position required and cut the rear window free.
- While cutting free, press cutting cord against window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance from window flange.
- Remove window from window opening.
