Right Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield, if equipped.
- Remove the right drive axle from transmission flange shaft - A -.
- Tie the drive axle up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the paint on the drive axle.
• On some engines, the drive axle cannot be tied up so that the transmission flange shaft can be removed.
• Remove the right drive axle.
- Place the used oil collecting and extracting device or drip tray (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the bolt for the right flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft and the pressure spring.
- Pry out the shaft seal.
Installing
- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new seal with oil.
- Fill the area between the sealing and dust lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).
- Drive in the new seal until seated and without tilting it using the thrust piece (3305).
- Push the flange shaft - A - against the pressure spring on the transmission housing and tighten the bolt. Tightening specification, see - item 11 - in => [ Differential Overview ] Description and Operation.
- Install the right drive axle to the transmission flange shaft - A -.
- Install the heat shield and bolts - arrows -, if equipped.
- Check the transmission fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Service and Repair.
- Install the noise insulation.
