Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair






Dryer Cartridge

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Robinair A/C Service Unit (ROB 134APF) or newer model

Engine bung set (VAS 6122)

There is a danger of ice-up.

Refrigerant leaks out if refrigerant circuit is not discharged.

Refrigerant must be extracted before opening the refrigerant circuit. If the refrigerant circuit is not opened within 10 minutes after extracting it, pressure may build up in the circuit again. The refrigerant must be extracted again.

Under certain conditions, the dryer cartridge must no longer be replaced after each time refrigerant circuit is opened.

Extract the refrigerant using the (ROB 134APF) (or succeeding model).

Environmentally hazardous draining of refrigerant is an offense punishable by law.

Function Of Fluid Reservoir With Dryer Cartridge

The receiver collects the fluid drops and then directs them in an uninterrupted stream to the expansion valve. Moisture which has entered the refrigerant circuit during repairs will be collected by the dryer cartridge in the receiver.

Removing

- Extract the refrigerant with the (ROB 134APF) (or newer models) from the refrigerant circuit.

- Remove the front bumper.

- Remove the left front air guide. Refer to Lock Carrier - Assembly Overview.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (2 Nm).

- Remove the dryer cartridge- 4 - bracket- 2 -.

- Remove the radiator bolt - 3 - (5 Nm) on the lock carrier.

- Remove the dryer cartridge - 4 - bolts - 5 - (2 Nm).






- Remove the dryer cartridge - 1 - upward in the - direction of the arrow B - out of the lock carrier - 2 -. Push back the radiator and condenser slightly toward the rear in the - direction of the arrow A -.

- Seal the dryer cartridge and condenser with the (VAS 6122).

- Replace the dryer cartridge- 1 - seal - 3 - before installing.






Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while observing the following:

Moisten the new seal with refrigerant oil before installing.

Do not install any dryer cartridge that has been exposed to the air longer than absolutely necessary.

A dryer cartridge that is exposed to the air becomes saturated with moisture quickly and becomes unusable.
