Rear Spoiler, removing


Materials

Material part numbers. Refer to Parts Catalog

1K-Window adhesive 1) 2) 3)

Glass/Paint primer 1)

Cutting wire

1) Follow the manufacturer instructions supplied in the packaging.

2) Note the minimum curing time. Refer to => [ Minimum Curing Time ] Minimum Curing Time.

3) Warm with the heater cartridge (V.A.G 1939A) according to manufacturer's instructions.

Bonding Rear Spoiler and Rear Lid, Preparing

When reusing rear lid and/or rear spoiler that has not been damaged:

- Replace the old double sided tape on the left and right rear spoiler with new double sided tape. Refer to Parts Catalog.






- Remove any adhesive still on the two-sided adhesive tape with adhesive strip remover (VAS 6349).

- Shortly before installing the components, cut back the remaining adhesive about 2 mm without damaging the paint.

It is not necessary to clean the cutting surfaces.

Residual material acts as a base for the new adhesive sealing material.

When using a new rear lid:

- Position the rear spoiler onto the rear lid and mark the installed position. Then remove the rear spoiler again.

- Clean the marked adhesive surfaces with cleaning solution. Refer to Parts Catalog.

Never apply glass/paint primer in excess on the markings. If the glass/paint primer is applied in excess on the markings, it can be removed with a lint free cloth and petroleum spirits within the first minute. Afterwards it is no longer possible to remove due to the bonding properties of the glass/paint primer.

- Prime the marked adhesion area with the glass/paint primer. Refer to Parts Catalog.

Drying time 10 minutes

When using a new rear spoiler:

- Clean the adhesive surfaces - 1 - with the cleaning solution. Refer to Parts Catalog.






Never apply glass/paint primer in excess on the adhesive surfaces - 1 -. If the glass/paint primer is applied in excess on the adhesive surfaces, it can be removed with a lint free cloth and petroleum spirits within the first minute. Afterwards it is no longer possible to remove due to the bonding properties of the glass/paint primer.

- Prime the adhesive surfaces - 1 - with glass/paint primer. Refer to Parts Catalog.

Drying time 10 minutes

Two Sided Tape, Installation Instructions

If removing or installing the rear spoiler, only use the adhesive remover to remove the adhesive residue from the outer left and right adhesive strip. Refer to Parts Catalog.

Remove any adhesive residue left by the tape using adhesive remover (VAS 6349).

Make sure there is no dust or grease on the adhesive surfaces.

Apply the rear spoiler immediately after cleaning.

Remove protective foil only immediately prior to the rear spoiler assembly.

The temperature must be approximately 70°F (21°C).

Rear Spoiler Removing

When cutting through the rear spoiler adhesive bead, never use cutting wire as it may cause damage to the paint surfaces.

Remove dirt from all joints, so that no paint damage can occur during removal of the rear spoiler.

Cover the bordering paint surfaces with tape to prevent causing damage.

- Removed trim panel rear lid lock..

- Remove the nut - arrows - for attaching the rear spoiler to the rear lid.






- Mark - arrows - the position of the threaded pins for the nuts (6 pieces) with a suitable pen on the underside of the rear spoiler - 1 -.






- Heat the outer left and right adhesive tape - 2 - on the rear spoiler - 1 - with the hot air blower (V.A.G 1416).

- Carefully loosen the tape between the rear lid and the outer rear left and right spoiler using a plastic wedge.

- Pull the cutting wire sideways under the rear spoiler.






- Secure a pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1) on both ends of the cutting wire.

- Cut the rear spoiler with a "sawing" motion up to the first marking and remove the cutting wire.

- Slide in a plastic wedge - 2 - to spread the area under the rear spoiler.

- Thread the ends of the cutting wire after making the first mark between the rear lid and the rear spoiler and secure a pull handle (V.A.G 1351/1) on both ends.

- Cut the rear spoiler again with a "sawing" motion up to the next marking and remove the cutting wire.

- Continue cutting the remaining adhesive in the same fashion until the rear spoiler is completely cut free.

- Remove the rear spoiler from the rear lid.

Installation

Make sure that the correct materials are being used during the corresponding work steps.

- Apply - 1 - the 1K window adhesive to the rear spoiler with the cartridge gun (V.A.G 1628).






- Remove the protective film from the left and right of the double sided adhesive tape - 2 - on the rear spoiler.

- Attach the rear spoiler to the rear lid with the help of a second technician and align it.

- Press the rear spoiler onto the rear lid.

- Open the rear lid and install the nuts (6 pieces).

Nut tightening specification: 10 Nm

- Removed trim panel rear lid lock..

Observe the minimum curing time. Refer to => [ Minimum Curing Time ] Minimum Curing Time
