Front Driveshaft






Front Driveshaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Pry lever 600 mm (for example, Hazet 652-24)

A twin post hoist should be used when working on the front driveshaft.

Mark the position of all the parts to each other before removing them. Install in the same position otherwise the imbalance will be excessive and the bearings could get damaged causing rumbling noises.

Removing

- Lift the vehicle.

- Remove the noise insulation and bracket under the transmission.

- Remove the front muffler or the particulate filter depending on the type of engine.

- Mark the installed position of the driveshaft to the transfer case and final drive.






- Remove the driveshaft - A - from the transfer case flange and front final drive using a pry bar.






A circlip secures the driveshaft to the flange and can be pulled off with a forceful pull.

- Guide the driveshaft downward and remove it.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal while observing the following:

- Always replace the circlip and the O-ring on the transfer case flange and front final drive.

- Attach the front driveshaft to the flange and turn it so that it aligns with the mark made earlier.

- Install the driveshaft on to the flange with a quick push being careful not to angle it. If it does not slide onto the flange, use a piece of wood - A -. Pull the driveshaft to make sure it secure.






- Install the driveshaft onto the transfer case flange.

- Turn the driveshaft to the mark made earlier and install it on the flange being careful not to tilt it. Pull the driveshaft to make sure it secure.
