Subframe Bonded Rubber Bushing, in the Backward Direction of Travel

Prior to replacing the defective bonded rubber mount, check the other bonded rubber mounts.

If tears or other damage is visible, they must also be replaced.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Kukko Support (Kukko 22-2) - 4 -

Kukko Extractor (Kukko 21/4) - 1 -

Kukko Separating Tool (Kukko 15-2) - 3 -

Hydraulic Press (Vas 6178) With Pressure Head (T10205/13)

Tensioning Strap (T10038)

Pneumatic/Hydraulic Foot Pump (Vas 6179)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Assembly Tool (T10301)

Removing

Vehicles with an Air Spring Shock Absorber

- Activate the vehicle lift mode and place the vehicle on the lifting platform. Refer to => [ Vehicle Lift Mode ] Description and Operation.

Continuation for All Vehicles

- Raise the vehicle.

Vehicles with an Air Spring Shock Absorber

- Loosen the threaded connection - arrow - between the air spring shock absorber - 1 - and the coupling rod at the wheel bearing housing.






- Remove the bolt.

Vehicles with a Steel Spring Shock Absorber

- Loosen the threaded connection - arrows - between the steel spring shock absorber - 1 - and the coupling rod at the wheel bearing housing.






- Install the block of wood between the subframe - 1 - and the upper rear transverse link - 2 -.






- Press the axle down with a block of wood.

- Remove the bolt.

Continuation for All Vehicles

- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.

- Remove the front bolts - 1 - for the subframe.






- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.

- Lower the subframe - 1 -.






a maximum 1.57 in

- Pry off the cover - 1 - with a screwdriver for example - arrow -.






Pressing out the Bonded Rubber Mount

- Mount the tools as illustrated.






1. Thrust piece (T10301/5)

2. Support ring (T10301/4)

3. Tube (T10301/3)

4. (VAS 6178) with (T10205/13)

5. Nut (T10301/2)

6. Spindle (T10301/1)


The chamfer on the outer diameter of the (T10301/4) must face the subframe.

- Press out the bonded rubber mount.

Before pressing out, place the (V.A.G 1383 A) with the universal mount under the cylinder since the cylinder may fall down at the end of the pressing out procedure.

Hold the (VAS 6178) during the pressing-out procedure.

Installation Position

The holes - 1 - must point longitudinal to the direction of travel.






The cutouts - arrow - must point perpendicular to the direction of travel

Pressing in the Bonded Rubber Mount

- Mount the tools as illustrated.






1. Thrust piece (T10301/7)

2. Bonded rubber mount

3. Thrust plate (T10301/6)

4. (VAS 6178) with (T10205/13)

5. Nut (T10301/2)

6. Spindle (T10301/1)


- Press in the bonded rubber mount until the shoulder is positioned without a gap against the socket of the subframe.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Install the subframe using new bolts.
