Lower Control Arm Bonded Rubber Bushing, Camber Adjusting Bolt Connection
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Assembly Tool (T10230)
• Hydraulic Press (VAS 6178) with pressure head (T10205/13)
• Socket wrench 21 mm (T10188)
• Pneumatic/Hydraulic Foot Pump (VAS 6179)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester (VAS 5051B)
Removing
Vehicles with an Air Spring Shock Absorber
- Activate the vehicle lift mode and place the vehicle on the lifting platform. Refer to => [ Vehicle Lift Mode ] Description and Operation.
Continuation for All Vehicles
- Raise the vehicle.
Vehicles with an Air Spring Shock Absorber
- Bleed the air spring shock absorber with the (VAS 5051B).
Continuation for All Vehicles
- Unscrew the bolt - 1 - for the shock absorber - 2 - on the control arm.
- Remove the threaded connection - 1 -.
- Remove the threaded connection - 2 -.
- Lower the lower control arm in the - direction of the arrow -.
Pressing Off
- Install the tools on the lower control arm as shown in the figure.

• Before pressing out, place the (V.A.G 1383 A) with the universal mount under the cylinder since the cylinder may fall down at the end of the pressing out procedure.
• Hold the (VAS 6178) during the pressing-out procedure.
- Press out the bonded rubber mount.
Pressing In
- Install the tools on the lower control arm as shown in the figure.

6. (VAS 6178) with pressure head (T10205/13)
- Press in the bonded rubber mount to the stop.
By doing this, core of bonded rubber bushing is pressed in by thrust piece (T10230/6) more than might be required. However, this is necessary so that bonded rubber bushing lip makes contact with control arm on outside. After loosening (VAS 6178) , bonded rubber bushing core settles into correct position.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
The threaded connection of the shock absorber/lower control arm must be tightened in the curb weight position. Refer to => [ Front Axle, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Front Axle, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.
- Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts. Refer to => [ Wheel Bolt Torque Specification ] [1][2]Specifications.
- Tighten the threaded connection of the lower control arm/subframe during the vehicle alignment.
- Perform vehicle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
