AdBlue(R) Tank, Draining
• The Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) reducing agent AUS 32 is simply called "AdBlue(R)" in the following information.
• AdBlue(R) can irritate skin, eyes and the respiratory system.
• If the fluid comes into contact with skin, rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of water.
• Consult a physician if necessary.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• AdBlue/Urea/Recovery Unit (VAS 6557)
• The AdBlue(R) tank is drained through the filler neck.
Make sure the AdBlue(R) does not come into contact with clothing or the vehicle body.
If this occurs, wash immediately with clean water and then dry using a lint free cotton cloth.
If the AdBlue(R) has already crystallized, use warm water and a sponge.
AdBlue(R) that is not removed will crystallize and can damage the affected surface.
The AdBlue(R) tank filler opening is located in the luggage compartment under the carpet.
- Raise the carpet - 1 - and slide it back.
- Remove the wing nut - 3 - on the spare tire, if applicable, and remove the spare tire - 2 -.
- Remove the foam piece, if applicable.
Protect the hands when prying the plug out of the tank filler neck.
Sharp edged body components could cause injury.
- Remove the plug from the tank filler neck - 1 -.
- Open the tank cap - 1 - in the luggage compartment.
Prepare the AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557) as follows:
- Connect the shut off valves - A, B and C -.
- Connect the coupling - D - to the connection on the shut off valve - A - and fill the compressed air hose with compressed air.
- Open the shut off valve - A -.
This creates a vacuum in the AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557).
- Close the shut off valve - A - as soon as the pressure gauge indicates a vacuum of 0.8 bar 11.7 psi).
- Disconnect the coupling - D - from the connection for shut off valve - A - and stop the flow of compressed air to the compressed air hose.
- Guide the hose - E - into the filler neck and all the way to the bottom of the AdBlue(R) tank. Open the shut off valve - B -.
• The vacuum in the AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557) extracts the AdBlue(R) from the tank. The AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557) can extract 11 liters (3 gallons). That is enough to remove the AdBlue(R) tank. Repeat the procedure if the tank contains more AdBlue(R) than that and it must be drained completely.
- To drain the AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557) , hold the connection on the shut off valve - C - over a suitable container and open the shut off valves - A and C -.
Do not reuse extracted AdBlue(R).
- Flush the AdBlue/Urea/recovery unit (VAS 6557) thoroughly with water after completing the procedure.
