Front Center Parking Aid Sensor

Front Center Parking Aid Sensor

The sensor mounts - 1 - for both inner front parking aid sensors - 2 - are removable and are installed inside the radiator grille.

Removal

- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.

Always follow the sequence for removing the sensor.

Otherwise, the sensor may be damaged. Hairline cracks which lead to sensor failure can develop if too much force is used on the sensor.

Remove the sensor from the bracket and then disconnect the sensor connectors.

It is not necessary to remove the bumper cover in order to remove and install the front inner parking aid sensor.

The following illustration shows the sensor with the bumper cover removed.

- Reach through the grille and push the sensor - 1 -, together with the sensor mount - 2 -, forward and out of the bumper cover.

- Press the tabs - arrows - on the sensor holder - 1 - outward and pull the sensor - 2 - out with the wires still connected.

When removing the sensor, make sure that the coupling ring (black silicone ring) remains on the sensor head and does not stick in the bracket or get lost.

Do not bend the coupling ring.

Replace damaged coupling rings.

- Unlatch and disconnect the harness connector - 2 - and remove the sensor - 1 -.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

When installing the sensor, make sure the coupling ring is correctly mounted on the sensor head and that it does not fall off or become jammed when inserting into the sensor holder.

Both tabs on the sensor mount must audibly engage when installing the sensor.

- Make sure the sensor is seated correctly in the bracket after installing. Dimension - a - for the circular gap between the sensor head and sensor bracket must be even all around on the outer side of the bumper cover. Otherwise the sensor head is under pressure and cannot be moved easily. This can result in malfunctions in the parking distance control function.
