Shifter A/T: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• The selector mechanism and selector lever cable move easily when shifting.
• The selector lever cable boot is undamaged.
The selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:
• The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
• The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
• Parts of the subframe were removed and installed.
• The cable itself or the selector mechanism was removed and installed.
• The engine and/or transmission position changes, for example, were installed free of tension.
- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
• The adjustment bolt - 2 - must be loosened.
- Move the selector shaft lever - 3 - into the "P" position (push the lever to the rear).
Make sure the parking lock is latched.
• Make sure the transmission is in the "P" position (parking lock is engaged) if raising the vehicle. It must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.
- Lightly tap the button in the handle forward and backward and make sure to keep the handle in the "P" position.
This locates the cable core in its optimal position.
- Tighten the adjustment bolt - 2 - to 13 Nm.
