Drive Axle Assembly Overview, with Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i






1 Outer CV Joint

• Replace only as complete unit.

• Removing, refer to => [ Removing the Outer CV Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

• Installing: Drive onto shaft using plastic hammer until expanded securing ring contracts.

• Checking, refer to => [ Outer CV Joint, Checking ] Outer CV Joint, Checking.

2 Bolt

• Various versions.

• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).


• There are 2 types of twelve-point bolts, with and without ribs.

• When installing a twelve-point bolt, always check what type of twelve-point bolt is to be used.

• Use the correct tightening specification for the specific bolt.

• The tightening specification for a twelve-point bolt with ribs is 70 Nm + 90°. For loosening and tightening specifications, refer to => [ Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt With Ribs, Loosening and Tightening.

• The tightening specification for a twelve-point bolt without ribs is 200 Nm + 180°. For loosening and tightening specifications, refer to => [ Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Twelve-Point Bolt With Ribs, Loosening and Tightening.

• Always replace if removed.

3 Securing Ring

• Always replace if removed.

• Insert in shaft groove.

4 Thrust Washer

• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Location of Spring Washer and Thrust Washer on Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

5 Dished Washer

• Installed position, refer to => [ Installed Location of Spring Washer and Thrust Washer on Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

6 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tightening Hose Clamp on Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

7 CV Boot

• Check for tears and scuffing.

• Material: Hytrel (Polyelastomer).

8 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tightening the Tensioning Clamp on the Smaller Diameter on the Inner/Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

9 Drive Axle

10 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tightening the Tensioning Clamp on the Smaller Diameter on the Inner/Outer Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

11 Protective Joint Boot for Triple Roller Joint

• Check for tears and scuffing.

12 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tightening the Tensioning Clamps on the Larger Diameter on the Inner Joint ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

13 Triple Roller Star with Rollers

The chamfer - arrow - points to drive axle splines.

• Removing, refer to => [ Triple Roller Joint, Disassembling ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

14 Securing Ring

• Always replace if removed.

• Insert in shaft groove.

15 Bolt

• M10 x 23

• First tighten to 10 Nm in a diagonal sequence, then tighten to tightening specification in a diagonal sequence.

• 70 Nm

16 Joint Piece

• Removing, refer to => [ Triple Roller Joint, Disassembling ] Drive Axle With Triple Roller Joint AAR3300i.

Differences Between a Twelve-Point Bolt with Ribs and a Twelve-Point Bolt without Ribs
