Crankshaft Overview
Crankshaft Overview
1 Bearing Shell
• For bearings 1, 2, 4 and 5.
• Do not interchange used bearing shells (mark them).
2 Bolt
• 65 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.
• Always replace.
• Tighten to 65 Nm to measure the radial play, but do not tighten the additional torque angle.
3 Bearing Cap
• Bearing cap 1: Belt pulley side.
• Bearing cap 3 with notches for the thrust washers.
• Retaining tabs on the bearing shells and cylinder block/bearing caps must align with one another.
4 Thrust Washer
• For bearing cap 3.
• Pay attention to the locating point.
5 Needle Bearing
• Only on vehicles with a DSG(R).
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Crankshaft Needle Bearing ] Crankshaft Needle Bearing.
6 Crankshaft
• Axial play:
New: 0.07 to 0.17 mm
Wear limit: 0.37 mm
• Measure the radial clearance using Plastigage(R):
New: 0.03 to 0.08 mm
Wear limit: 0.17 mm
• Do not rotate the crankshaft when measuring the radial play.
• Crankshaft dimensions, refer to => [ Crankshaft Dimensions ] Crankshaft Dimensions.
7 Thrust Washer
• For the cylinder block, bearing 3.
