Windshield Washer Reservoir: Service and Repair






Windshield and Headlamp Washer Fluid Reservoir

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Overview Of Tank For Windshield Washer System and Headlamp Cleaning System






Tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system is in three parts and designed to be fitted together.

In order to guarantee the correct position of the parts with respect to each other, make sure that guides present on the individual components engage in each other during assembly.

1 Filler tube for tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system
2 Filler tube connecting pipe to tank (is removed and installed together with tank)
3 Washer fluid reservoir

Before removing tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system, the filler tube of tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system must be removed.

Removing Filler Tube For Tank For Windshield Washer System And Headlamp Cleaning System

- Disconnect connecting tube - 1 - from filler tube - 3 - of tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system.






- Remove screw - 2 -.

- Unclip hose retainer from filler tube - 3 - and remove filler tube - 3 - from vehicle.

Removing Tank For Windshield Washer System and Headlamp Cleaning System

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

- Remove front bumper cover.

In order to prevent interchanging washer fluid line connections at Windshield Washer Pump (V5) , connections at pump and hose lines are color-coded. The hose connectors must be connected to the corresponding colored pump connections during installation.

- To release, twist the securing clips at hose connections - 3 - and - 5 - and disconnect them from windshield washer pump - 4 -.






- If necessary, save the drained washer fluid in a suitable container.

- Disconnect harness connector - 6 - of Windshield Washer Fluid Level Sensor (G33) - 7 -.

- Unclip the wiring harness.

- Pull windshield washer pump - 4 - upward out of tank and disconnect harness connector - 2 -.

- Pull Headlamp washer pump (V11) - 9 - upward out of the tank and disconnect harness connector - 10 -.

- Remove the tank mounting bolts - arrows - and remove tank together with filler tube connecting pipe from vehicle.






Installing Tank For Windshield Washer System and Headlamp Cleaning System

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten all threaded connections - arrows - to 8 Nm.

Tightening specifications overview, refer to => [ Windshield Wiper and Washer System, Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.

Installing Filler Tube For Tank For Windshield Washer System and Headlamp Cleaning System

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Casting mark on under side of filler tube must be inserted into engine mounting hole - arrow -.






Connecting tube - 1 - and filler tube - 2 - must be joined so that the guides - arrows - engage in each other.








- Tighten mounting bolt - 2 - to 2.5 Nm.






- Clip in the hose retainer of filler tube - 3 -.

Tightening specifications overview, refer to => [ Windshield Wiper and Washer System, Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.

- Install front bumper cover.

- Fill fluid into tank for windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system.

- Bleed headlamp washer system after completing assembly work. Refer to => [ Headlamp Washer System, Bleeding ] Headlamp Washer System, Bleeding.
