Please observe the information:
• Regarding the repair information, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Regarding the transmission fluid, refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) ] Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
• Regarding the overflow tube, refer to => [ Transmissions with and without a Filling Tube ] Transmission.
• It may be necessary to shorten the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)
• Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
• Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)
• Adapter for Filling ATF Oil (VAS 6262/2)
• Pipe Cutter (VAS 6056/2)
Shortening the Pipe on the Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A) :
- Shorten the pipe to 210 mm - a -. This assures the pipe will not touch the bottom of some containers.
• Dimension - a - is measured starting from the green surface in the cap of the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).
- Make a mark on the pipe, 210 mm from the green surface and cut the pipe using the pipe cutter (VAS 6056/2).
Use the transmission fluid that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Always replace the seal - arrow - on the plug when checking the fluid level.
Checking
- Turn off the engine.
The transmission fluid temperature must not be more than approximately 30 °C (86 °F) at the start of the test.
• The transmission must not be in emergency running mode, The transmission fluid temperature is not above approximately 30 °C (86 °F).
• The vehicle is horizontal
• The selector lever is in the "P" position.
- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and move through the selections until it is ready for operation. Refer to => [ Vehicle Diagnosis Tester, Connecting and Selecting Functions ] Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.
- Press the"right" button, Guided Functions.
- Select the vehicle, the transmission and press check ATF level.
- Press the -> button.
- Start the engine.
- Lift the vehicle.
- Place a drip tray under the transmission.
- Press the -> button.
If the test temperature displayed is 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F).
- Remove the plug from the transmission pan.
Transmission fluid drains out of the overflow tube.
If transmission fluid continues to drain out of the hole:
The transmission fluid does not need to be topped off.
- Reinstall the plug with new seal, and tighten it to 27 Nm. The fluid level check is completed.
If no transmission fluid drains out of the hole:
- Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
Filling
- Install the adapter for filling ATF oil (VAS 6262/2) hand tight to the transmission pan with the engine running.
- Shake the bottle before opening.
- Read the information regarding the pipe before attaching the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the fluid container.
- Fill with 1 liter of fluid.
- Connect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262) quick release coupling to the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) and check:
If fluid drains out of the adapter hole:
The fluid does not need to be topped off.
- Allow the fluid to drain until it drips.
- Reinstall the plug with a new seal and tighten it to 27 Nm. The fluid level check is completed.
If fluid does not drip out:
- Fill with another liter.
Too little or too much transmission fluid will impair the transmission. If 2 liters are missing, you should check the transmission more closely. There is probably a larger leak.
