Water Pump: Service and Repair






Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10-222 A)

Shackle (10-222 A/12)

Refractometer (T10007)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6362)

Bracket for Engine (10-222 A/1)

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the pendulum support.

- Remove the suspended mount bolts - arrows - from the subframe.






- Remove the lower right side wheel housing liner..

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

Do not place the bracket for engine (10-222 A/1) on the fender panels. They will get damaged.

- Attach the shackle (10-222 A/12) to the right lifting eye.

- Assemble the engine support bridge (10-222 A) with the bracket for engine (10-222 A/1) as shown and support the engine in the installed position at the right lifting eye.






- Remove the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts - arrows -.






- Lower the engine using the engine support bridge (10-222 A) just enough until it is possible to remove the coolant pump.

- Remove the coolant pump pulley. To do so, counter hold the pulley using a standard drift.

- Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 - and then remove the coolant pump - 2 -.






Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:

- Lubricate the new O-ring with coolant.

- Install the coolant pump.

- Tighten the coolant pump bolts to 8 Nm

- Install the coolant pump pulley. Tightening specification: 20 Nm

- Raise the engine using the engine support bridge (10-222 A) and secure it with new bolt, tightening them by hand.

- Align the engine mount as follows:

There must be a distance - a - of at least 10 mm present between the engine mount bracket and right longitudinal member.

The casting edge on the engine mount bracket - 2 - must be parallel to the engine mount support arm - 1 -.






- Tighten new engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts. Tightening specification: 60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

- Install the pendulum support.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.
