Thermostat: Service and Repair






Coolant Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6340)

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Move the connector - A - to the side.






- If the engine oil cooler is installed here, then remove the coolant hoses from the engine oil cooler - arrows - and move them to the side.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and then remove the thermostat cover with coolant hose.






- Remove the coolant thermostat from the thermostat housing.

Installing






There must be a metal sleeve - arrow - inside the thermostat cover. Replace the cover if the metal sleeve is missing.

- Clean the sealing ring surface.

- Install the coolant thermostat into the thermostat housing.

Installed position: The edges on the coolant thermostat and housing must align - arrows -.






- Coat the new seal with coolant and install it on the thermostat housing.

- Install the thermostat cover and tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence.

Tightening specification: 5 Nm.

- Install the coolant hoses and connectors.






- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Procedures.

- Install the noise insulation.
