Thermostat: Service and Repair






Coolant Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.

- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - and disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolant thermostat and connection from the thermostat connection.





Ignore - 2 and 3 -.

- Disconnect the coolant hose - 1 -.





- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the connection with the coolant thermostat.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Replace the O-ring.

- Clean the sealing surfaces.

- Install the connection with the coolant thermostat. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump and Coolant Thermostat Overview ] Description and Operation.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
