Haldex Clutch Oil Level, Checking or Adding

High performance gear oil for Haldex clutch (G 052 175 A1) is available as a replacement part.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing, and Information System (VAS 5051)

• Diagnostic Cable, 3 m with Power Supply (VAS 5051/1)

• Diagnostic Cable, 5 m without Power Supply (VAS 5051/3)

• Charging Device f/Haldex Clutch (VAS 6291)

Checking

Prerequisites:

• The oil temperature must be between 20 and 40 °C (68 and 104 °F).

• The vehicle must be horizontal.

• The oil temperature can be reached by driving the vehicle for awhile.

- Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051/).

- Select "suspension (repair group 01; 40-49)" on the display.

- Select "AWD with Haldex clutch" on the display.

- Select "01 - systems capable of OBD".

- Select "AWD Haldex" on the display.

- Select "electrical components" on the display.

- Select "oil temperature" on the display.

- Remove the fill plug - arrow -. (Shown with the rear final drive removed for the sake of a better illustration).






The oil level is correct if the Haldex clutch is filled to the lower edge of the plug hole or up to 3 mm below the hole.

- Install the fill plug - arrow - and tighten it to 15 Nm.

Filling

Requirement:

• The vehicle must be horizontal.

- Fill with high performance gear oil for Haldex clutch (G 052 175 A1).

The high performance gear oil for Haldex clutch (G 052 175 A1) is available as a replacement part.

- Lift the vehicle.

- Place a drip tray underneath.

- Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) under the final drive.

- Remove the plug - arrow -. (Shown with the rear final drive removed for the sake of clarity).






- Screw in the adapter - A - until seated.






- Attach the elbow - B - to the adapter - A -.

- Add enough oil using the charging device f/haldex clutch (VAS 6291) until the oil leaks out between the charging device tool adapter and the transmission housing.

- Remove the filler tool and adapter; a little oil left over will leak out.

The oil level is correct when the Haldex clutch is filled up to the lower edge of the hole.

- Install the plug - arrow - and tighten it to 15 Nm.






- Finally, check the oil level in Haldex clutch.
