Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Sealing Tool (T10249)

Removing

- First, check whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.

- Remove the air filter housing if it is located near the battery.

- Remove the battery and the battery tray.

While performing the following work, make sure no brake fluid comes into contact with the longitudinal member or with the transmission below. If it does, clean the area thoroughly.

Place a lint-free cloth under the clutch master cylinder.






- Clamp off the supply hose to the master cylinder using the hose clamp up to 25 mm dia. (3094).

- It can also be sealed using the sealing tool (T10249/1).

The clutch position sensor (G476) - arrow 1 - and the circlip - arrow 2 - will be removed later in the procedure. These are located near the brake booster - A -. They are partially covered.






- Remove the supply hose - 1 - from the clutch master cylinder.






- Pull the circlip - 2 - out and remove the line - 3 - from the clutch master cylinder.

- Unclip the clutch position sensor near the supply hose - 1 - from the clutch master cylinder - arrow - and disconnect the connector - 4 -.

When working in the area of the floor, cover the carpet with a cloth to protect it against any leaking brake fluid.

- Remove the storage compartment and cover on the driver side.






- Remove the footwell vent - 1 -.

The footwell vent may look different than what is shown in the illustration.






- Remove the bolt - 2 - and the impact bolster support - 1 -.

- Remove the fuse panel under the instrument panel on the left side and move it to the side.

- Remove the relay panel under the instrument panel on the left side and move it to the side.

Remove the nuts - arrows - for the mounting bracket as follows:






Remove the sound absorber - arrow - from the bracket/clutch pedal, if equipped.






- Remove the retainers - A -.






- Remove the sound absorber.

- Wrap the universal joint adapter from the socket set (V.A.G 1835) with tape.

- Push the wiring harness - 1 - upward and to the left - arrow - using a extension - 2 - from the socket set (V.A.G 1835).






- If equipped, push the sound absorber up around the upper nut - 1 - and over the clutch pedal - A - in the - direction of the arrow -.






- Remove the upper nut - 1 -.

The upper nut - 1 - is accessible between the relay carrier and the steering column.

- Then, remove both lower nuts - 2 - and the mount bracket - 3 -.






- If equipped, remove the sound absorber at the same time.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Some vehicles have a sound absorber - arrow - over the bracket/clutch pedal.






Replace the self-locking nuts.

- Install the impact bolster support - 1 - and tighten the bolt - 2 - to specification.






- Install the trim and the cover on the driver side.

- Push the line - 1 - with seal - 2 - into the clutch master cylinder connection - 4 - until the clip - 3 - audibly locks into place.






- Pull on the line to make sure it is tight.

- After removing the hose clamp up to 25 mm dia. (3094) , bring the supply hose back to its original shape.

- Bleed the clutch system. Refer to => [ Clutch System, Bleeding ] Clutch System, Bleeding.

- Install the battery.

- Install the air filter housing, if it was removed earlier.
