- Start engine and top off fluid level in reservoir if necessary.
- Turn steering wheel from stop to stop approximately 10 times.
- Check pumping pressure.
Test Requirements
• Ribbed belt/ribbed belt tension OK.
• Sealing of system
• Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted
- With engine at idle speed, close stopcock (not more than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
Specified values
Gasoline engines: 85 to 95 bar
Diesel engines: 96 to 105 bar
• If specification is not reached or exceeded, replace pump:
• Removing and installing power steering pump, vehicles with low-mounted power steering pump => [ Low Mounted Power Steering Pump ] Low Mounted Power Steering Pump.
• If power steering fluid is low in the servo fluid reservoir, check steering system for leaks.
• In case of leaks at steering pinion, check lines/line connections for leaks, if necessary tighten and wipe dry.
• In case of leaks at the steering pinion or at pinion shaft seal in steering housing, the steering gear must be replaced.
• To test rack seal open hose clamp of boots and set boots aside.
