CAUTION!
Risk of injury. Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Battery A!

It is not necessary to disconnect or remove the Battery (A) when using the (VAS 5097 A).

Using the (VAS 5097 A), 12V batteries with the follow cold cranking outputs can be tested:

The Battery (A) are tested by being loaded with current that corresponds to the starter current of a vehicle. Under this load, the Battery (A) is evaluated and the measured results are output through the printer.

Read the => (VAS 5097 A) Operating Instructions or the => (VAS 5097 A) Quick Reference Guide label.

Observe the handling instructions of the battery manufacturer!

CAUTION!
Risk of injury. Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Battery A!

CAUTION!
Turn off the ignition and all electrical components.

Remove the ignition key.

Procedure

- Check Battery (A) no load voltage. Refer to => [ Battery Resting Voltage, Checking ]. Battery Resting Voltage, Checking

- Determine cold cranking amps according to specifications on the battery (A) in amperes (A) according to DIN using the table. Refer to => [ Battery Load Test with Battery Tester With Printer ]. Battery Load Test With Battery Tester With Printer

If the Battery (A) does not state this value in DIN, but rather in IEC or EN/SAE, then convert the value using the table. Refer to => [ Battery Load Test with Battery Tester With Printer ]. Battery Load Test With Battery Tester With Printer

- Select the cold cranking output with the cold cranking output selector switch.

- Select the measurement range, 80 - 379 A or 380 - 499 A, using the ON/OFF switch.

- Connect the red clamp "+" from the (VAS 5097 A) to the positive terminal.

- Connect the black clamp "+" from the (VAS 5097 A) to the negative terminal.

Make sure the test clamps make good contact!

Note => TPL 2012182 for (VAS 5097 A).

- Select the connection point of the test clamps using the sliding switch.

1. Direct connection to the Battery (A)

2. Connection to the battery jump start terminal inside the engine compartment

- Check if the cold cranking output indicated on the Battery (A) matches the selected value on the (VAS 5097 A).

- Press the start button.

The green LED lights up. The test program runs automatically. The test results are output through the printer.

- Switch off the (VAS 5097 A)

- Remove the test clamps.

The test is over after approximately 20 seconds.

The results of the test are output through the printer.

Perform the test only one time. Repeating the test will not produce accurate results.

Test result on the printout:

1. Set measuring range on the (VAS 5097 A).

2. Diagram, the - arrow - points to the Battery (A) status.

3. Test result.

4. Battery (A) voltage during load test.

5. Vehicle data are to be filled out by the tester.

6. Date, for tester to fill out.

The printed test results are required for warranty claims.

Perform the test only one time. Repeating the test will not produce accurate results.

* If the result of the repeated battery load test is " starting power sufficient", "starting power insufficient", " starting power very insufficient" or "cannot be tested", replace the Battery (A).
