Radio, Activating Anti-Theft Code

Radio, Activating Anti-Theft Code

Activate anti-theft coding on Volkswagen radio systems

General Information

The anti-theft coding electronically prohibits unauthorized individuals from starting the unit again after it has been removed.

This anti-theft code is also called the radio code of security code.

Security code means that every unit with anti-theft coding has been programmed with its own code.

This security code is not active from the factory.

If a device card is available, the security code is on it.

Or, if the device card is not available, the security code can be requested from the central database using the diagnostic tester => [ Radio Code, Requesting with Diagnostic Tool ].

If SAFE is shown on the display after turning on the radio, the radio is locked!

The radio must be left switched on for an hour, at which point it becomes unlocked. Now it is possible to enter the code.

If the security code is entered incorrectly two times, the unit is locked for an hour.

Remember: two attempts to enter the code, then the unit is locked for one hour.

The units are equipped with an electronic anti-theft protection that works in conjunction with the instrument cluster.

After disconnecting the radio or navigation system voltage supply, it is ready for operation after reconnecting to the power supply without entering the security code again.

The requirement for this is that the electronic anti-theft protection has been activated for the first time and that the unit is reconnected in the same vehicle.

If "SAFE" - along with a small "2" at left in display - should remain displayed however, the radio is locked! Radio must remain switched on 1 hour, then the lock is deactivated.

Display and control elements:

A Search function rocker
B Station buttons
C Hand tuning rocker
D Blinking diode

- Using station buttons - B - 1 to 4, enter code number affixed to radio card. Press preset button 1 to enter first digit of code number, preset button 2 for second digit and so on.

- Then, press either the seek rocker switch - A - or the hand tuning rocker switch - C - longer than 2 seconds. Release button!

If the security code was entered in the radio properly, after a short " Learning phase" the actual frequency will be displayed. During this pause, the strongest frequency stations in the region will be stored in internal memory and become readily available.

With unit switched off and ignition key removed, LED - D - located in radio must blink. If the LED flashes, the radio is ready for operation and the anti-theft coding is active.
