Selector Shaft Seal






Selector Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Pulling Hook (T20143/1)

Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- Remove the air filter housing if it is located above the selector shaft.

With a Metal Relay Lever:






- Remove the circlip - 2 - and the relay lever - 3 -.

If the relay lever cannot be removed due to the transmission mount, remove the selector cable from the relay lever. Remove the sliding shoe from the transmission shift lever.

With a Plastic Relay Lever:

- Remove the relay lever with the cable retainer. Refer to => [ Plastic Relay Lever ] Plastic Relay Lever.

Continuation for all Shift Mechanisms:

- Remove the nut - 4 - and the transmission shift lever - 1 -.






- Pry out the seal using the extractor lever (T20143/1).

Installing

- Lightly oil the new seal on the outer circumference.






- Fill the area between the sealing and dust lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in the seal until seated using the sleeve (VW 423).






Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.

- Install the transmission shift lever to the shift shaft. Refer to => [ Transmission Shift Lever, Installing ] Shift Mechanism Overviews and tighten the nut => [ (Item 17) Nut, Self Locking ] Shift Mechanism Overviews to specification.

- Install the air filter housing, if it was removed earlier.
