Installing
Installing
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (for example, fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP), coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
• When installing the engine/transmission into the vehicle, it is always necessary to bring the engine carrier into contact with the body using the scissor lift table (VAS 6131). Pulling up the engine carrier using the bolts damages the thread inserts!
Procedure
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
- Make sure the alignment sleeves for centering the engine/transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install if necessary.
If the subframe with suspension has been removed from the (VAS 6131) :
- Position the front drive axle with subframe again on the prepared (VAS 6131).
- Set the engine on the engine carrier.
If transmission is not yet bolted on:
- Support the engine using the (VAS 6131/7).
- Install the transmission.
- Raise the (VAS 6131) just enough so that it is possible to attach the selector lever cable when installing the engine.
- Fill the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
- Reconnect all lines, hoses and connections that were disconnected during the removal sequence.
- Connect the Air Conditioning (A/C) lines.
- Fill and bleed the power steering fluid.
- Fill the engine oil.
- Fill the with cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
• After installing the engine/transmission, perform a vehicle alignment.
- Perform a road test and check all the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memories. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply.
