Rear Caliper Piston

The removal and installation of the pistons is identical on the various brake calipers.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Piston Resetting Tool (T10145)

Removing

- Force the piston from the brake caliper housing, one at a time, using compressed air.





Only one piston can be pressed out at a time. Secure the opposite piston in the brake caliper housing using the (T10145) - a -. Block the other pistons, using a wood block - b -. In addition, place a wooden board - c - in front of the (T10145) so that the piston will not be damaged when pressed out.

- Remove the seal using the (3409).





When removing, make sure that surface of the cylinder is not damaged.

Installing

- The surface of the piston and seal must only be cleaned with mineral spirits and then dried.

- Apply a thin coat of assembly paste (G 052 150 A2) on the piston and seal before installing.

- Install the oil seal in the brake caliper housing.





- Install the protective cap on the piston.





- Push the piston into the brake caliper housing using a constant pressure.





The protective cap must be seated properly in the groove, push slightly farther if necessary.
