Selector Lever Cable
• Check the cable for ease of movement after installing it.
Removing
- Move the selector lever into the "S" position.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable from the transmission - 1 - and pull it out of the bracket - 2 -.
- Be careful not to bend the cable. Do not use pliers otherwise the tabs could break off.
- Pry the cable - 1 - off the selector shaft lever ball head on the selector shaft - 3 - using a open end wrench - 2 -.
- Lift the vehicle.
The heat shield and exhaust system components may need to be removed in order to remove the cables and/or selector mechanism.
- Remove the heat shield.
- Remove the selector housing under the selector mechanism.
- Remove the cable from the selector lever. Push the pin up using a screwdriver and push the pin forward at the same time.
- Remove the retainer plate from the cable sleeve. Always replace the retainer plate.
- Remove the selector lever cable.
Installing
- Loosen the cable adjustment bolt.
Do not grease the cable.
- Route the selector lever cable so that it is free of tension and install it into the cable bracket on the transmission but do not secure it yet.
- Clip the selector lever cable into the bracket. Make sure that bracket does not touch the transmission fluid cooler.
Nuts: 8 Nm
- Secure the cable with the pin to the selector lever and to the selector mechanism bracket with a new retainer plate.
- Install the selector housing, the heat shield and the exhaust system.
- Check the cable after installing it. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
