Tail Lamps, Side Panel
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)
• The following illustrations show the removing and installing of the tail lamps in the side panel on the left side. Removing and installing the tail lamps in the side panel on the right side is identical.
• The tail lamp in the side panel contains two single-filament bulbs; both function as brake and tail lamps.
Removing
- Turn off the ignition and all electric consumers and remove the key.
- Remove both bolts - arrows -.
- Open the flap - 1 - in the luggage compartment side panel.
- To unlock the screw - 1 - turn it in - direction of arrow - approximately 90° until it stops.
- Pull the tail lamp - 1 - in - direction of arrow - out of the catches - 2 - and straight out of the body cut-out, while being careful of connected wires.
- Disconnect the unlatch the harness connector - 2 - and remove the tail lamp - 1 -.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Turn the screw - 1 - in - direction of arrow - approximately 90° until it stops and close the flap in the side panel.
• The tail lamp assembly connector must engage "audibly" in side panel when connecting.
- Connect the connector.
- Push the tail lamp mount - 1 - into the side catch - 2 - until it latches.
- Tighten the mounting screws to the specification shown in => [ Tail Lamps, Side Panel Overview ] Tail Lamps, Side Panel Overview.
- After installing, check the tail lamp functions and the gap between the body.
