Clutch Release Bearing: Service and Repair






Clutch Release Mechanism

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)






1 Transmission

2 Ball Stud

25 Nm

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

Remove grease from the release lever contact surfaces.

Grease for clutch plate splines (G 000 100).

3 Input Shaft Seal

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

Removing and installing, refer to - item 12 - in => [ Transmission and Clutch Housings ] Transmission and Clutch Housings.

4 Guide Sleeve

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

With a vulcanized O-ring.

If the O-ring is damaged, then replace the guide sleeve and the O-ring.

5 Spring

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

Attach to the clutch release lever.

6 Bolt

20 Nm

7 Clutch Release Lever

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

Remove and install together with the release bearing. Refer to => [ Remove and Install the Clutch Release
Lever with the Release Bearing ].

Remove any grease already present.

8 Release Bearing

To remove and install, the transmission must be removed.

Do not wash the bearing, just wipe it off.

Replace loud bearings.

Removing from/installing to the clutch release lever. Refer to => [ Removing and Installing the Release Bearing
from the Release Lever ].

Lubricate the release lever contact surface with MoS 2 grease.

9 Bolt

20 Nm

10 Clutch Slave Cylinder

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Clutch Slave Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

11 Plunger

12 Assembly Bolt

Secures the clutch release lever when installing the transmission.

Remove after installing the transmission.

Use an M6 x 35 bolt if the assembly bolt is missing.

Remove and Install the Clutch Release Lever with the Release Bearing





- Unhook the spring - arrow 1 -.

- Remove the clutch release lever - arrow 2 - and release bearing.

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- Squeeze the hooks - arrows - on the back of the clutch release lever and remove the release bearing - A - from the clutch release lever.

- Press the release bearing - A - into the clutch release lever until the hooks - arrows - engage.
