Seat Belts






Seat Belts

Front Seat Belts, 2-door

Removal

Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.


Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect vehicle battery

- Remove upper B-pillar trim, refer to => [ Upper B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim

- Remove seat bench, refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove backrest, refer to => [ Backrest ] Rear Seats

- Remove 2-door sill panel trim, refer to => [ Sill Panel Trim, 2-door ] Service and Repair

- Remove side trim, refer to => [ Side Trim, 2-door ] Pillar and Side Trim

- Remove bolt - 1 - (20 Nm).

- Remove the screw - 2 - 40 Nm) and washer - 3 -.

- Pull the guide bracket - 4 - through loop in belt webbing.

- Remove screw - 5 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 6 - from B-pillar.


Electrostatic charges may result in involuntary deployment of the belt tensioner. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the body or the door striker or pin.

- Disconnect the connector - 7 -.

- Remove bolts - 8 - (4.5 Nm) and belt guide - 9 -.

- Remove bolt - 10 - (40 Nm) and remove belt relay - 11 - from belt height adjuster.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

- Connect vehicle battery, refer to.

Front Seat Belts, 4-door

Removal

Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

- Disconnect vehicle battery

- Remove upper B-pillar trim, refer to => [ Upper B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim

- Remove lower B-pillar trim, refer to => [ Lower B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove belt anchor - 2 - from body.


The screw - 1 - may be micro-encapsulated and must be heated using a hot air gun before loosening. While doing this, protect the neighboring seat belt against excessive heat with a moist towel.

If the screw is micro-encapsulated, it must be replaced every time it is loosened.

Before installing the new screw, threads on nut must be cleaned, re-cut if necessary.

- Remove screw - 3 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 4 - from B-pillar.

- Remove the bolts - 6 - (2 Nm) and remove belt guide - 7 -.

- Remove bolt - 8 - (40 Nm) and remove belt relay - 9 - from belt height adjuster.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

- Connect vehicle battery, refer to.

Front Seat Belt Height Adjuster

Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removal

- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Refer to => [ Upper B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim

Belt anchor or anchor rail does not need to be removed on seat belt.

- Remove bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove belt relay - 2 - from belt height adjuster.

- Remove bolt - 3 - (20 Nm) and separate belt height adjuster - 4 - from mounting in carrier plate.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Belt Latch, 2-door

The following describes removing and installing the seat belt latch on the left seat. Removing and installing the right seat belt latch is identical.

Removal

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Remove front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seats

- Attach the seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Position seat as far forward as possible.






- If present, disconnect wiring harness - 1 - from seat frame.

- Remove bolt - 2 - (20 Nm).

The screw is micro-encapsulated and must be replaced every time it is loosened.

Before new bolts are installed, the thread of the corresponding nut must be cleaned.

- Turn seat belt latch 90 degrees clockwise - arrow A -.

- Swivel seat belt latch toward outside - arrow B -.

- Remove the seat belt latch from the mount in seat rail - arrow C -.

Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Belt Latch, 4-door

The following describes removing and installing the seat belt latch on the left seat. Removing and installing the right seat belt latch is identical.

Removal

- Mount the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Remove front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat ] Front Seats

- Attach the seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Position seat as far forward as possible.

- If present, disconnect wiring harness from seat frame.

- Remove bolt - 1 - (20 Nm).

The screw is micro-encapsulated and must be replaced every time it is loosened.

Before new bolts are installed, the thread of the corresponding nut must be cleaned.

- Remove the seat belt latch - 2 - from the mount in the seat rail - arrow -.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Rear Outer Seat Belts

Removal

2-door vehicles

- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Refer to => [ Upper B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

4-door vehicles through 06.2005

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove 4-door side upholstery:

- Remove the wheel housing trim, 4-door. Refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Service and Repair

4-door vehicles with rear side airbag, from 06.2005

- Remove 4-door side upholstery:

with rear side airbags, refer to => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door ] Rear Seats

- Remove the wheel housing trim, 4-door. Refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Service and Repair

4-door vehicles without rear side airbag, from 06.2005

- Remove luggage compartment cover side compartment. Refer to => [ Luggage Compartment Cover Side Storage Compartment ] Interior Trim

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove seat belt guide - 2 - from body.

Vehicles with belt tensioner


Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect vehicle battery.


Electrostatic discharges can lead to an unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the body or the door striker or pin.

- Disconnect wiring harness - 3 -.

- Remove screw - 4 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 5 - from body - arrow A -.

Vehicles without belt tensioner

- Remove screw - 6 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 7 - from body - arrow B -.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Rear Center 3-Point Seat Belt

Removal

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Rear Seats

- Remove cover and upholstery from backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest Covers and Upholstery ] Rear Seat Covers and Upholstery

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove seat belt latch - 2 - from body.

- Remove hex nut - 3 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractors - 4 - from console - 5 -.

- Guide seat belt latch - 2 - through console - 5 -.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Center Rear Lap Belt

Removal

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Rear Seats

- Remove the bolt - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove lap belt - 2 - from body.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

Rear Double Belt Latch

Removal

- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.

- Remove backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Rear Seats

- Remove screw - 1 - (40 Nm) and remove double seat belt latch - 2 - from body.





Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
