Selector Mechanism Checking, from 03.2009

The engine cannot be started when the selector lever is in "R", "D" and "S" positions.

Above 5 km/h

The shift lock solenoid must not block the selector lever when the lever is in the "N" position. The selector lever can be moved back into a another gear.

Below 5 km/h

The shift lock solenoid will block the selector lever approximately 1 second after the lever is moved into the "N" position. Selector lever can only be shifted out of position "N" with the brake pedal pressed.

Selector Lever in the "P" Position and Ignition On

• The brake pedal is not pressed:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the "P" position with the lock button pressed. Solenoid for selector lever lock blocks the selector lever.

• The brake pedal is pressed:

Solenoid for selector lever lock releases selector lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible. Shift selector lever slowly through from "P" to "S"; while doing this, check whether the display of the selector lever position in the instrument panel insert matches the actual selector lever position.

Selector Lever in the "N" Position and Ignition On

• The brake pedal is not pressed:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the "N" position with the lock button pressed. Solenoid for selector lever lock blocks selector lever.

• The brake pedal is pressed:

Solenoid for selector lever lock releases selector lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible.

Selector Level in the "Tiptronic" Position

- Shift the selector lever into the Tiptronic gate.

The illuminated "D" in the cover must go out. The "+" and "-" must come on.

The symbols inside the instrument cluster must change from "P R N D S" to "6 5 4 3 2 1".

Ignition and Lights On

The appropriate symbol is being lit up in the shift mechanism cover.

Transmission Range Display

Simultaneous lighting of all segments of the transmission range selector lever display indicates transmission is in emergency running mode.
