Engine Accessory Bracket: Service and Repair
Accessory Bracket
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)
Removing
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to --> [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Remove the charge air guide pipe to the noise generator. Refer to --> [ Charge Air Pipe to Noise Generator ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the generator..
- Disconnect the solenoid clutch electrical connector - 1 - from the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor.
CAUTION!
Risk of injury from refrigerant:
• The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
- Remove the A/C compressor bolts - arrows -.
CAUTION!
Risk of damaging the refrigerant lines and hoses:
• Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses.
- Tie the A/C compressor, with refrigerant lines attached to the longitudinal member.
- Remove the oil dipstick guide tube bolt - arrow -.
- Remove the bolts - 5 through 1 - and remove the accessory bracket from the coolant pump housing.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Ribbed Belt Assembly Overview ] Ribbed Belt Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
• Replace the bolts which have been tightened to specifications.
• Replace the O-rings and seals.
- Coat the O-rings - 4 - with coolant.
- Install the connection - 2 - into the coolant pump housing - 3 -.
- Press the accessory bracket - 1 - onto the connection, install and tighten the bolts. Refer to --> [ Accessory Bracket Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] Ribbed Belt Assembly Overview.
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Install the generator..
- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to --> [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
