Self-Adjusting Pressure Plate Adjusting Ring, New LuK Clutch, Checking and Resetting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Punch (VW 412)

Thrust pad (3062)

The following step applies to clutches made by "LuK"

Installation of a new pressure plate and new clutch disc is required.

If previous pressure plate and clutch plate are reinstalled, adjusting ring should not be reset.

On clutches made by "Sachs", pressure plate cannot be reset.

If you install a new pressure plate and clutch disc, check position of adjusting ring in pressure plate.

Adjusting ring must be reset to stop

Springs - arrow - are then pressed together on " block"





Otherwise, clutch contact pressure is reduced and this causes increased clutch plate wear.

If springs are not pressed together on "block", adjusting ring must be reset.

- Insert 3 bolts, M6 x 35 - A - offset 120 degrees (as shown in illustration) into holes in pressure plate.





- B - = spacer, approximately 20 mm high, e.g. socket insert SW 10 for 1/4" drive.

- Install 3 nuts - C - on bolts - A -.

- Place pressure plate on workshop press so that only 3 bolt heads - arrows - touch surface.





- Center thrust pad (3062) on middle of pressure plate.

Do not use excessive force for the following procedure, otherwise the adjusting ring forks may break off

- Position two screwdrivers on adjusting ring pins.





- Press down on pressure plate with press until adjusting ring can just be moved.

- Turn adjusting ring in direction of - arrow - back to limit stop, using even pressure on both screwdrivers.

- Hold adjusting ring against limit stop and release pressure on press so that adjusting ring is held in this position.
