Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair






Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Seal remover (3203)

Counter-holder tool (3415)

Assembly tool (T10053)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

- Remove toothed belt. Refer to --> [ Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning ] Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning.

- Remove toothed belt crankshaft sprocket. Secure toothed belt sprocket with the counterhold tool (3415).





- To guide seal remover (3203), install the center bolt manually into the crankshaft all the way.

- Rotate inner section of the seal remover two turns (approximately 3 mm) out of the outer section and secure it with the knurled bolt.

- Lubricate threaded head of the seal remover.

- Using considerable force, screw seal remover as far as possible into the seal.





- Loosen knurled screw and turn inner portion against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.

Installing

The sealing lip of the sealing ring may not be additionally oiled or greased.

- Before installing, remove oil remains from end of crankshaft with a clean cloth.

- Place guide sleeve (T10053/1) on crankshaft pin.





- Push seal over the guide sleeve onto the end of the crankshaft.

- Press seal in to the limit stop using the assembly tool (T10053) and the center bolt.





- Install crankshaft toothed belt sprocket:

Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ 2 120 Nm plus an additional / turn (90°) ] Toothed Belt Drive Assembly Overview.

- Install and tension the toothed belt. Refer to --> [ Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning ] Toothed Belt, Removing, Installing and Tensioning.
