Right Stub Shaft Seal, through 31 October 2004, Transmission Installed

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Thrust Piece (T40007)

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

• Grease for clutch disc shaft splines (G 000 100 )

Removing

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the right drive axle - A -.





- Unbolt the intermediate shaft - B - from the mounting bracket - C - - arrows - and pull it off from the stub shaft of the transmission.

- Remove the bolt for the stub shaft.

- Place the appropriate receptacle underneath the transmission.

- Pull out the stub shaft with spring.

- Pry out the stub shaft seal.

Installing

- Drive the new seal in until seated; be sure not to distort the seal.





- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Replace the O-ring on the stub shaft.

- Install the stub shaft.

- Secure the stub shaft with the countersunk bolt and tighten to specification.

- Grease the stub shaft splines with grease (G 000 100 ).

- Guide the intermediate shaft - B - through the mounting bracket - C - onto the transmission stub shaft.





- Install the intermediate shaft to mounting bracket bolts - arrows - and tighten to specification.

- Install the right drive axle - A -.

- Check the transmission fluid. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

- Install the noise insulation.
