Engine Oil: Description and Operation






Engine Oil

The oil level must not exceed the MAX mark - danger of damaging the catalytic converter.

Test Conditions:

Engine oil temperature a minimum of 60 °C (140 °F).

The vehicle is on level ground.

After turning off the engine, wait a few minutes to allow the oil to flow back into the oil pan.

Test Sequence:

- Pull out the oil dipstick, wipe it off with a clean cloth and reinsert it all the way.

- Pull out the dipstick again and check the oil level.

Range of marks on the dipstick:






a Oil must not be added.
b Oil may be topped off.
c Oil must be added.

The oil level must not exceed the MAX. mark - arrow 1 - and must not fall short of the MIN. mark - arrow 2 -.
