Over-Center Spring






Over-Center Spring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly Tool (T10178)

Removing

- Remove the mounting bracket. Refer to the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Mounting Bracket ] Mounting Bracket.

- Carefully secure the lower area of the clutch pedal in a vise equipped with jaws protectors.

- Disconnect the clutch pedal from the master cylinder. Refer to => [ Clutch Master Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the over-center spring from the clutch pedal - arrow 1 - and at the same time move the bracket in the - direction of arrow 2 -.






- Carefully release the tension on the over-center spring.

- Move the bracket again into the end position and remove the over-center spring.

Installing

The clutch pedal is separated from the clutch master cylinder.

- Carefully secure the lower area of the clutch pedal in a vise equipped with jaws protectors.

- Install the over-center spring into the mounting bracket.

- The mounting area - arrow - for the clutch pedal pivot pin - A - must be positioned vertically.






- Mount the assembly tool (T10178) in the center area near the over-center spring and move the bracket upward.

- Squeeze the over-center spring - arrow 1 -.






- At the same time move the bracket just far enough downward - arrow 2 - until the over-center spring can be pushed onto the clutch pedal mounting pin - A -.

If installed incorrectly, the over-center spring will jump uncontrolled out of the mounting bracket.

Place a cloth under the over-center spring.

Check the function of the over-center spring.

Move the bracket up and down a few times.

- Connect the clutch pedal to the master cylinder. Refer to => [ Clutch Master Cylinder ] Service and Repair.

- Install the mounting bracket. Refer to the following:

Passat and CC, refer to => [ Mounting Bracket ] Mounting Bracket.
