Shift Cable: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable Adjusting, through 02.2009
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
Selector Lever Cable must Always be Adjusted If:
• Selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.
• Engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
• Parts of the transmission mount were removed and installed.
• Cable or selector mechanism were removed and installed.
• Engine/transmission positions were changed, for example, installed free of tension.
Adjusting
- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.
The adjustment bolt - 2 - must be loosened.
- Shift the lever/shift rod - 3 - on the transmission into the "P" position (push the lever backward).
Make sure the parking lock is latched.
- From underneath the vehicle, rotate both front wheels in the same direction and at the same time until the parking lock audibly engages.
• The parking lock is engaged when it is not possible to rotate both front wheels in the same direction at the same time.
- Lightly tap the button on the shift handle forward and backward and make sure to keep the handle in the "P" position.
This locates the cable core in its optimal position.
- Tighten the adjustment bolt - 2 - to 15 Nm.
This ends the adjustment.
