Valve Cover: Service and Repair
Cylinder Head Cover
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)
• Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)
• Ignition coil puller (T40039)
Removing
- Remove the engine cover/upper air filter housing. Refer to => [ Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing ] Engine Cover/Upper Air Filter Housing.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the ignition coils with power output stages. Refer to => [ Ignition Coils with Power Output Stages ] Service and Repair.
- Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) line - 1 - from the cylinder head cover.
- Remove the crankcase ventilation valve housing bolts - arrows - from the cylinder head cover.
- Remove the crankcase ventilation line bolts - 1 - and heat shield from the turbocharger.
- Disconnect the EVAP line from the turbocharger to the cylinder head cover - 2 -.
- Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts from the outside toward the inside.
- Remove the cylinder head cover.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
• Replace the cylinder head cover gaskets if damaged.
- Tighten the cylinder head cover bolts from the inside working toward the outside in several stages.
- Observe the correct positioning of the upper toothed belt guard.
