Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Refractometer (T10007)
• Drip tray (VAG 1306) or drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
• Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024 A)
• Cooling system charge unit (VAS 6096)
• Adapter (VAG 1274/8)
Removing
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
- Remove the charge air hoses - arrows - from the charge air cooler.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses from radiator.
- Bring the lock carrier into the service position. Refer to
- For better positioning, place a approximately 80 mm long sleeve, for example, (3353), (3077) or from the (VW 540/1A) (old tool) at the right and left between the lock carrier and body.
- Remove the fan shroud with coolant fans. Refer to => [ Coolant Fan and Coolant Fan 2 ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the radiator bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the radiator downward.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
- When installing a new radiator, the old coolant must not be reused.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
