Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair






Transmission Oil Cooler

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

- Remove the battery and battery tray.

- Place a lint free cloth on the transmission oil cooler and transmission to absorb any leaking coolant.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses using (3094) and disconnect the hoses from the oil cooler.





- Remove the oil cooler bolts - A - and remove the cooler - B -.





CAUTION!
Coolant must not drip into the transmission!

Installing

- Replace the transmission oil cooler O-rings - C -.





- Mount the transmission oil cooler - B -, while doing this, pay attention to the O-rings - C -.

- Install new bolts - A - and tighten them to 20 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

- Install the coolant hoses to the transmission oil cooler and remove the (3094).





- Insert the new oil filter with the seat - arrow - facing downward and tighten the housing to 20 Nm.





- After performing repairs, the filter does not need to be changed again when filling with oil.

- Install the battery and battery tray.

- Check the coolant level and top off the coolant if necessary. Refer to one of the following:

Gas engines.

Diesel engines.

- After repairing, fill the oil without replacing filter. Refer to => [ Oil Filter and Oil Level, Changing and Adjusting ] Testing and Inspection.

CAUTION!
Do not start the engine during the coolant level test if the transmission fluid has not been filled yet.
