POWER STEERING: STEERING GEAR: INSPECTION

1. INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Secure the tie rod assembly LH in a vise.





(b) Install the nut to the stud bolt.

(c) Flip the ball joint back and forth 5 times or more.

(d) Using a torx wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.

Turning torque:

0.98 to 3.92 N*m (10.0 to 40.0 kgf*cm, 8.7 to 34.7 in.*lbf)

If turning torque is not as specified, replace the tie rod assembly LH.

2. INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH

Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
