Shift Cable: Adjustments
U760E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE: TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY: ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) When shifting from P to R with the ignition switch ON and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly into position.
(b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from N to D and moves rearward when shifting to R.
If the operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the shift lever assembly installation condition.
2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Move the shift lever to N.
(b) Remove the nut and transmission control cable from the control shaft lever.
(c) Align the protrusions of the park/neutral position switch.
(d) Pull back the boot of the transmission control cable assembly.
(e) Move the slider in the direction indicated by arrow A and pull up the lock piece in the direction indicated by arrow B.
NOTICE:
Do not damage the boot.
(f) Install the control cable to the control shaft with the nut.
Torque : 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
* If the control cable end is excessively pushed up, the shift lever cannot be adjusted.
* When tightening the nut, confirm that the control cable is properly stretched.
(g) Push in the lock piece.
NOTICE:
Firmly push in the lock piece until the slider lock is engaged.
(h) Refit the boot to the transmission control cable assembly.
(i) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when moving the lever from N to D and moves rearward when moving it to R.
If it becomes hard to move the shift lever, readjust the shift lever position.
