Engine Control System - SFI System (to 12/2010)
2GR-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P2610: ECM / PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance
P2610 - ECM / PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance
DTC SUMMARY
DESCRIPTION
The soak timer operates after the ignition switch is turned off. When a certain amount of time has elapsed after turning the ignition switch off, the soak timer activates the ECM to perform malfunction checks witch can only be performed after the engine is stopped. The soak timer is built into the ECM.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
1. While the engine is running, the ECM monitors the synchronization of the soak timer and the CPU clock. If these two are not synchronized, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction, illuminates the MIL and sets the DTC.
2. If the soak timer activates the ECM even though only a short amount of time has elapsed since the ignition switch was turned off, or if the soak timer does not activate the ECM even though a considerable amount of time has elapsed since the ignition switch was turned off, the ECM determines that the soak timer is malfunctioning, illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC the next time the ignition switch is turned to ON.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).
4. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
6. Start the engine.
7. Idle the engine for 10 minutes or more [B].
8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes / Pending.
9. Read the pending DTCs [C].
10. If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
HINT
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
12. Input the DTC: P2610.
13. Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
* If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
* If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
* If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform step [B] again.
14. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
15. Check the judgment result.
HINT
* If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
* If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
16. If the test result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).
HINT
* If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
* If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
* DTC P2610 is set if an internal ECM problem is detected. In this case, diagnostic procedures are not required. ECM replacement is required.
* Read freeze frame data using Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction Freeze Frame Data.
PROCEDURE
1. REPLACE ECM
(a) Replace the ECM Removal (to 12/2010).
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (P2610)
(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Clear the DTCs DTC Check / Clear (to 12/2010).
(e) Start the engine and wait for 10 minutes or more.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes / Pending.
(g) Read the pending DTCs.
HINT
If no pending DTCs are output to the Techstream, the repair has been successfully completed.
