EVAP Canister Purge Valve and Its Circuit Inspection

1) Prepare to operate EVAP canister purge valve as follows.
a) When using SUZUKI scan tool:
i) Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch turned OFF and disconnect purge valve vacuum hoses from intake manifold and purge pipe.
ii) Turn ON ignition switch, clear DTC and select "Active Test" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.

(A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)





b) When not using SUZUKI scan tool:

NOTE:
Before performed this check, be sure to read the Precautions for ECM Circuit Inspection Precautions for ECM Circuit Inspection.

i) Disconnect hoses from intake manifold and purge pipe No.1.
ii) Connect special tool between ECM and ECM connector. Pinout Values and Diagnostic Parameters
iii) Turn ON ignition switch.
Using service wire, ground "C01-7" terminal (1) circuit of special tool (valve ON: "B") and pull it out (valve OFF: "A").





2) Check purge valve (2) for operation and vacuum passage for clog when valve is switched ON and OFF by using SUZUKI scan tool or service wire.

WARNING:
If vacuum is applied using your mouth, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor.

Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.

NOTE:
If too high a vacuum is applied, the EVAP canister purge valve may be damaged.

Do not exceed a vacuum of -86 kPa (-12.47 psi).

If check result is not satisfactory, check hoses, EVAP canister purge valve, wire harness and connections.

EVAP canister purge valve specification
Valve OFF [A]: When vacuum (-53 kPa (-7.69 psi) to -67 kPa (-9.72 psi)) is applied to hose (1), vacuum is maintained.
Valve ON [B]: When vacuum is applied to hose (1), air goes into hose.
